Narrative
In the midst of an international crisis, career diplomat Kate Wyler finds herself in a high-profile job she’s ill-suited for, affecting her marriage and political future. The producers convinced both the Americans and the British government to allow them to use real-life settings as filming locations for the series, including the still-new American Embassy (Nine Elms), which opened in 2018.
One inaccessible location was Winfield House, the actual residence of the American ambassador
Britain allowed filming in the Foreign Secretary’s office, something that is rarely given credit for any film or movie production, especially an American one. Although accurately described as occupying the largest residential plot (11 acres) in London outside of Buckingham Palace, the producers used a country house outside the city for filming.
Absolutely top-notch production and acting
Presented at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024). The script is smart and interesting, engaging and well-paced.
The character development is quite strong and the players are not mere caricatures
Time and again, the character seems one-dimensional at first, but then the story unfolds and they are actually much more complex than they appear at first glance. My only complaint is that some of the “romance” plots are so astonishing and out of place that they come off as disjointed and disturbing.
Someone thought to spice up the show a bit and that doesn’t improve the outcome
Professional situations that suddenly turn into “I’m just a girl standing in front of a guy” seemingly out of nowhere.
